TGR Captures US Freeskiing Athletes Training For Sochi Gold

With the Sochi Winter Olympics rapidly approaching, freeskiers around the world have been working hard for a shot at competing in the Olympic Games, which will be the first to showcase both skiing halfpipe and slopestyle. Despite these freeskiing events making their debut, the efforts of these athletes have often gone unnoticed.

As an effort to document this latest chapter in freeskiing’s history, Teton Gravity Research aims to put the spotlight on these skiers. This brief edit from Way Of Life, Teton Gravity Research’s latest ski film, highlights some of the training and preparation that the US Freeskiing Team has undergone in advance of the Olympic Games. After all, the kids in red, white, and blue want to ensure that they’re throwing the biggest tricks with the best style when the games kick off in Sochi.

TGR teamed up with the US Freeskiing Team during a private training camp last spring at Mammoth Mountain in California to film the segment. The edit features Olympic hopefuls Simon Dumont, Willie Borm, Sammy Carlson, Joss Christensen, Torin Yater-Wallace, Nick Goepper, Maddie Bowman, Colby Stevenson, Alex Schlopy, and Devin Logan, along with Halfpipe Coach Ben Verge, Slopestyle Coach Skogen Sprang, and Head Coach Mike Jankowski.

Watch the athletes as they train on an Olympic-sized booter, as well as a halfpipe with a bevy of giant air bags. These setups allowed athletes to master their tricks for Sochi, be they an alley-oop flatspin five or the next frontier in video game skiing: the triple cork. Through the years, TGR has been proud to help document and fuel the evolution of freeskiing. As freeskiing graduates to the big leagues, we wish all of the athletes the best of luck.
